The Truth about the Acai Berry Diet

The Acai berry is the latest in a long line of so-called superfoods. What does this mean? Well, it means that if those lucky enough to consume this tasty South American fruit will not only be afforded super strength, but they may also achieve flight. We are being facetious here, of course. But the point is that the internet has a penchant for turning products into panaceas.

So, let’s be honest for a change. The Acai berry is no panacea. It is simply a fruit. But it is a healthy one. In fact, it may just be the healthiest fruit on the face of the earth. How do we know this? Studies have shown that the acai berry diet is extremely high in antioxidants, with nearly five times the amount of antioxidants than more common berries like raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or blueberries.

For those of you that don’t know, antioxidants are the natural enemies of nasty little predators called free radicals. These free radicals can damage healthy cells and may even increase the risk of certain types of cancer. But antioxidants can destroy free radicals, which is why it is important to consume foods that are high in antioxidants.

However, at this point, most of what we know about the Acai berry is pure speculation. For instance, we do not know if it promotes healthy weight loss or if it reduces the risk of cancer. What we do know, however, is that it is a low-fat food that is high in antioxidants, amino acids and protein, which makes it one of the healthiest fruits you can find.
