Take Care at Work

Whilst most of us are aware of looking after ourselves to prevent accident and injury in the home, we tend to forget that we also have to be careful not to injure ourselves due to strain or an Accident At Work.

Workers and employers are now becoming more aware of the dangers of incorrect seating and bad posture when seated at a desk and we are advised to take regular breaks away from the screen to give us a chance to work our muscles a little. Workers should try to take regular short walks where possible.

Another potential problem is the way the keyboards and mice are laid out which can cause additional strain on the arms and hands. The overall layout of the desk is very important, as, for example, if you have to constantly move your body to view paperwork, it can cause strain and injury.

Eyesight can also be affected and all workers using a computer screen should have regular eye tests. They should also take regular short breaks away from the screen. It may also be necessary to adjust the font size and brightness if this is likely to strain the eyes.

Many employers now hire experts, either in house or as a temporary contract consultant, to make regular checks of the working conditions and make recommendation for improvement where necessary.
