Getting to the hospital or clinic in time is most important. However, for some people who might have a problem getting around on their own for whatever reasons, hospital cars in the uk or ambulances should be arranged.
It is not just for emergencies that some people might need transport to reach their clinic or hospital. Some people including the elderly might need prolonged care and regular health check-ups. Such persons may need regular transport, as they may be unable to manage this on their own. (more...)
If you’ve managed to survive long enough to read this article, then it is likely that you are aware of the many health benefits of drinking water. Or at least you are aware of the fact that if you do not drink water you’ll die. In this brief article we are going talk about why the body needs water so badly.
At any given time, about sixty to seventy per cent of your body weight can be attributed to good old-fashioned water. Why so much? Well, the simple fact is that the body uses up water quickly to complete a number of crucial processes. For example, your lungs expel two to four cups of water just by breathing.
Then of course there is sweating and going to the bathroom and even expectorating from some crude blokes. All in all that is about six cups of water or eight to ten when you add the lungs. And that is the simple answer to why doctors and other experts recommend that people drink 8-10 glasses of water each day. It is also why buying a water cooler for your home or office might not be such a bad idea. (more...)
The Acai berry is the latest in a long line of so-called superfoods. What does this mean? Well, it means that if those lucky enough to consume this tasty South American fruit will not only be afforded super strength, but they may also achieve flight. We are being facetious here, of course. But the point is that the internet has a penchant for turning products into panaceas.
So, let’s be honest for a change. The Acai berry is no panacea. It is simply a fruit. But it is a healthy one. In fact, it may just be the healthiest fruit on the face of the earth. How do we know this? Studies have shown that the acai cleanse is extremely high in antioxidants, with nearly five times the amount of antioxidants than more common berries like raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or blueberries.
For those of you that don’t know, antioxidants are the natural enemies of nasty little predators called free radicals. These free radicals can damage healthy cells and may even increase the risk of certain types of cancer. But antioxidants can destroy free radicals, which is why it is important to consume foods that are high in antioxidants. (more...)
Britons spend over a billion pounds a year on diet and weight loss programs , while Americans spend an astonishing thirty billion pounds on similar products and programs. What do these two nations have in common? Well, they are two of the fattest nations on earth and they have been losing the battle of the bulge for decades now.
While it is true that Americans are a bit heavier on average, the numbers for British citizens are not much better. According to a recent study, one out of every three Britons is overweight, while one out of every five is obese. The figures are particularly alarming when it comes to the number of obese children, which has nearly doubled in only a decade.
So, why are two nations that spend billions of pounds on diets and weight loss programs getting fatter and fatter? In the end, it is because diets simply do not work. In fact, according to a recent study, 95 percent of people who lose weight on fad diets end up gaining it all back in less than a year. (more...)

Improving your health is an important objective for anyone who wants to minimise the effects of illness. Healthy living is not as hard as you think. In most cases it involves making simple changes to your lifestyle. And the results of these measures can yield long term rewards.
The two most important considerations to developing a healthy lifestyle are exercise and food. Eating the right types of food is important because what we consume has the biggest impact on our body. However, this approach does not mean eating just one type of food but having a balanced diet. No one food type contains all the nutrients that the human body needs. A wide variety of food therefore is not only enjoyable but extremely good for the body.
Combining healthy eating with regular exercise is the next step to a healthy body. All types of physical activity are useful as long as they carried out on a regular basis. It is also important to remember to pack first aid kits when attempting any exercise. This is particularly relevant if the activity is an outdoor one that is in an isolated area. (more...)
It is a shocking and sad fact that in the UK nearly four thousand people a year die because of accidents in the home and garden. Almost three million people attend hospital Accident and Emergency units seeking treatment and a million of these are children under the age of 18. It is an even sadder fact that most accidents could have been prevented with a little extra care and attention.
Making your home safe to avoid the risk of accidents is relatively easy. Just a few basic precautions will keep the most vulnerable family members safe. Children in particular need protecting from hazards such as scalds and burns, poisoning, choking and injury from tools or sharp objects.
First aid kits should be readily accessible in every home. These should contain an assortment of plasters and dressings in different shapes and sizes; disposable gloves, tweezers, scissors, alcohol-free cleansing wipes and antiseptic cream or spray suitable for cuts, burns, skin rashes, insect bites or stings. A thermometer, pain killers suitable for different age groups, cough medicine, decongestants and antihistamines are all useful additions. Distilled water for wounds and for use as an eye bath is also extremely valuable. (more...)
One in four people in the UK feel nervous about seeing their dentist, according to a recent survey. Perhaps that is why about a third of patients do not schedule regular dental checkups. Why are people so afraid to see the dentists in the Cosmetic Dentistry Guide?
Granted, someone poking around in your mouth with a metal instrument is not a particularly pleasant experience. But it is necessary. Did you know, for instance, that even minor dental problems like cavities can lead to serious health issues?
It's true! If a cavity is left untreated it can spread down to the root of the tooth, which may cause an abscess or a serious infection. This infection can spread through the jaw and even to the brain. If the infection reaches the brain, it could result in a coma, even death. All from a little cavity your dentist could have filled in fifteen minutes. (more...)
Britain has become one of the fattest nations on earth. According to a recent report on world obesity, it comes in at number four after Australia, the United States, and Mexico. One out of every five Britons is obese and one in three is overweight.
Now, this wouldn't mean much if being fat simply required bigger clothes, but obesity has had a detrimental effect on the health of the nation. Diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and certain types of cancer are strongly linked to obesity. In fact, of the more than one hundred thousand new cases of type 2 diabetes that are recorded each year in Britain, nearly ninety percent are the result of obesity.
Yes, we know, big is supposed to be beautiful. But it is also extremely hazardous to your health. The condition is already the number one cause of preventable death in the US and it is running a close second to smoking in the UK. What is the solution? That's simple, gym deals (more...)
There are many negative aspects of getting into a car accident. The damage to your car, the potential increase in insurance premiums, and obviously the potential for injury. One of the most comment injuries that occurs after car accidents is whiplash, which often cannot even be detected for 24-48 hours after the accident. But once the symptoms kick in, it is a painful and debilitating affliction.
But whiplash does just happen after car accidents. Whiplash is also a comment injury in sports like football, and any other activity where bodily contact can cause a sudden jarring of the neck and head. This is what causes whiplash; the question is, what are the best ways to treat it?
There are a number of chiropractic treatments for whiplash, which, again, often does not show up for three months or more and can last as long as three years. The sooner you begin treatment, the quicker the healing process can begin.
The first step of the Whiplash Injury Recovery Phase is the Inflammation Process. This begins immediately following the whiplash injury and generally lasts up to 72 hours and in some cases up to five days.
It is common for there to be little to no pain after the hit. After a few hours or even the next morning after, the inflammation phase has begun. The muscle will begin to spasm, swell, become tight, painful, and look for range of motion to decrease. The decreased range of motion comes from the body trying to immobilize the tissue to prevent further injury.
The second phase is the repair phase, which generally lasts from three days to three weeks. The importance of this stage of healing is the wound edges will begin to pull together to affectively reduce re-injury.
Finally, there is the remodeling phase, which lasts three weeks to two years. During this phase collagen begins to form and lies down to strengthen the wounded area. This is what is referred to as scar tissue, which is only about 80% as strong as normal tissue.
The importance of whiplash injury treatment in this phase is to allow the collagen to lay down in the correct area, and reduce scar tissue build up which can create decreased range of motion and lead to instability and pain in the future.
Although treatments are easily and cheaply available in the UK through the National Health Service, there are a few areas where the service fails to provide patients with treatment at all. This is usually when the patients condition such as impotence or hair loss, are not serious or potentially life threatening.
Furthermore where an NHS doctor can prescribe treatment they are quite often limited by NHS and NICE guidlines as to the quantity and regularity with which the treatment can be prescribed. This however is not the case with most UK online doctor services which can only provide private prescriptions.
Now there are many Online clinics that are fully licences and registered and where patients can be guaranteed genuine treatments and a safe service. (more...)
Whilst most of us are aware of looking after ourselves to prevent accident and injury in the home, we tend to forget that we also have to be careful not to injure ourselves due to strain or an Accident At Work.
Workers and employers are now becoming more aware of the dangers of incorrect seating and bad posture when seated at a desk and we are advised to take regular breaks away from the screen to give us a chance to work our muscles a little. Workers should try to take regular short walks where possible.
Another potential problem is the way the keyboards and mice are laid out which can cause additional strain on the arms and hands. The overall layout of the desk is very important, as, for example, if you have to constantly move your body to view paperwork, it can cause strain and injury. (more...)

Health is something that we humans cannot take for granted and so it pays to make sure that we can look after ourselves and our families properly. Whilst Great Britain is famous the world over for its excellent health service, there are issues with the system which many people find frustrating. For this reason, many more people are taking out health insurance
There are several advantages to taking out a private health insurance policy, whether it is for one person or for a whole family. Probably the biggest advantage, which is one of the top reasons why people take out this type of insurance, is speed. Patients who develop an acute illness, injure themselves or require intensive rehabilitation may have to wait weeks to receive treatment unless they have private insurance.
As well as being able to receive treatment quicker, those with this type of medical insurance also have the freedom to choose when and where they receive the treatment they need. It is possible to attend a hospital of your choice at a time that suits you; some people even go in for minor surgery during a lunch hour and return to work that afternoon or the next day! (more...)

There are certain people that we are taught to trust from when we are children. We are taught to trust our teachers, doctors and nurses, and this is a trust that we carry with us until we are proven wrong. Doctors study and train for years before they can practise medicine. They are generally very intelligent people who either have an interest in research or in doing clinical work.
It is all this training and knowledge that makes us put our trust in doctors but what happens when that trust is broken? When we go to a doctor complaining of a number of symptoms we expect that the diagnosis they make will be the right one and that the doctor will prescribe the right medication.
We don't expect doctors to get it right all the time, but when they get it wrong we do expect them to try again to find what the problem might be. If this continues to happen you can contact www.patientlawyers.com, they specialise in misdiagnotion litigation. (more...)
